Online MSc in Epistemology, Ethics and Mind
Launched in September 2014 and part-funded by a Distance Education Initiative grant, the Online MSc in Epistemology, Ethics and Mind was the first fully online postgraduate programme to have originated from within PPLS.
All of the relevant courses are taught through Learn. Typical activities include:
Video lectures
These are recorded in lecturers’ offices using Camtasia Studio. This software lets you combine audio, video, screen-recording and presentation slides. The files are edited by our Learning Technologist Colin Hickie and are then uploaded to Vimeo, where they are password protected.
Discussion forums
Students regularly take part in discussion forums. Lecturers and teaching assistants also take part in the discussions, responding to comments, suggesting further reading and so on.
Participation counts for 20% of a student’s grade for each course.
Virtual office hours
Students can request a meeting with their lecturers. These meetings take place using Blackboard Collaborate.
Further information
Prospective students were able to try out a taster week before enrolling on the programme. This is still available; to access it, go to Learn, make sure you’re signed out, and you should see it in the box labelled Guest courses.
